New Mapping form

Use this form to enter information about the data file and provide a description but all these things can be entered or changed later on the Mapping Details form. You may click on the Next button and go straight to the Mapping Details form

Import File Sample

You will need an example of the type of data file that you wish to import. Any file will do as long as its format is consistent with files you intend to import from using this mapping in the future.

It can be a sample or test data file or a file that you want to import as soon as you have completed the mapping.

It will be used to identify the input columns to be mapped as input to MYOB fields.

Using the New Mapping form

1. Select the sample file that is in the format that you need to import either by typing/pasting in its path and name or using the Browse button.

Define the format:

  • Select the appropriate file format, usually Comma delimited (CVS) or Tab-delimited.

Note that delimiters and line endings which are within double quotes in the data will be treated as part of the data.

  • Check First row contains field names check box if there are column headings. If not the columns will be identified as "Field001", "Field002" etc
  • Sometimes data originally intended as a report has header lines above the columns. If this is the case enter the number of lines to skip at the start of the file.

2. In the Name field, give your mapping a meaningful name so that you can select it later. For example you might call your mapping "Import online orders".

Hint: If you are going to use a number of mappings for different purposes the default names "New Mapping", "New Mapping 1" etc get confusing pretty quickly.

Optionally, enter a description in the Description field. This is a useful place to put notes to remind yourself of specific purpose or features of the mapping as it will appear on the mapping list. If there are similar mappings a note of the context in which you would use the mapping is helpful.

3. Select an input column to be used in the log to make it easier to identify which lines of data a log message applies to. It does not need to be a column that you are going to import. For example you might use a reference ID that refers to the data in the source application.

Complete the Mapping

Click on the Next button see Mapping Fields to select which fields go into which MYOB fields.
